4 Simple Ways to Enhance Self-Care with CBD

By Shona Curley

Even in more ordinary times, products that can help us manage stress and maintain optimal wellbeing are welcome. These days, prioritizing good mental and physical health is a necessity. Times are uncertain, and stress can elevate inflammation levels and worsen chronic symptoms you may already have. Maintaining a daily self-care routine is a way to stay healthy and grounded through the challenges.

Cannabidiol (CBD) can be a useful addition to any self-care routine in a variety of ways. In this article, we’ll explore different ways to take CBD and the reasons it could be an excellent choice to uplift your mental and physical health. Perhaps this beneficial herb will support you in approaching uncertainty with a creative and optimistic spirit.

CBD and Your Self-Care Routine

Incorporating CBD into your daily self-care routine may support your overall wellbeing.

1. Daily CBD may Relieve Anxiety.

Anything that relieves stress and anxiety can be beneficial for overall wellness. Many people find that a daily dose helps lessen symptoms of anxiety. In stressful times, we could all use support with this. CBD may mitigate anxiety and shows promise as a therapeutic intervention due to its effects on the endocannabinoid system (ECS), reports a 2003 review. Ultimately, CBD may still help calm the hamster wheel of worrying thoughts in times of stress.

2. Daily CBD may Help You Relax and Stay Present.

Many people find that taking CBD makes it easier to relax and stay present. (Perhaps this is because of its soothing effect on the nervous system.) CBD may help with focus during the workday, or it may help you stay present with yoga or mindful movement practice. In any case, letting the outside world fade away for a bit and relaxing into the present moment is a great way to manage stress and make the day more enjoyable.

3. CBD at Bedtime may Help You Sleep.

Whenever times are stressful, sleep quality can suffer. Why is it so easy to get lost in a labyrinth of worry at 3 AM? However, CBD at bedtime (or if you wake up in the middle of the night) might help you sleep more deeply, and it’s hard to overstate the importance of good sleep for health and wellness. Indeed, CBD may be a therapeutic modality for sleep issues like insomnia, according to a 2017 review. If you, like so many, find it hard to make it through the night, CBD is well worth a try.

4. Topical CBD may Ease Joint Pain.

Painful joints can be distracting, increase stress, and get in the way of committing to an exercise routine. You’re in luck! CBD may assist in soothing joint soreness and alleviating stress, suggesting a 2017 review. If your joints are bothering you, try self-massage with a CBD cream or salve, especially before exercise.

Ways to Take CBD

There are a number of different preparations for CBD, and everyone is different in terms of what most appeals to them and works best. Here is a list of possible ways to use CBD.

Sublingually: CBD extracts or oils are best absorbed if held under the tongue for a minute or so, where they absorb directly into the bloodstream. Just hold a few drops of CBD oil sublingually, and wash it down with some water.

Capsule: CBD absorbs a bit less well when taken orally as a supplement, so you may need to raise the dosage a bit to see results. But for some, the fact that you don’t have to taste CBD if you swallow a tablet is worth it.

Beverage or candy:

You can make your own CBD infused beverages or buy CBD infused chocolates or gummies. This masks the taste. The dosage may need to be tailored to suit your individual needs.

Topical: You can buy salves and creams that contain CBD, or you can make your own. CBD massaged into your skin absorbs quite well, and obviously, the taste is not an issue this way!

Vaping: The nice thing about vaping CBD is the effects are pretty immediate. Vaping cartridges are smoke-less and low temperature and absorb into the bloodstream within minutes.

Final Thoughts

Finding a way to incorporate CBD into your daily self-care routine may support your overall wellbeing on many levels. With all the different ways to take CBD, you can get creative and find a form that suits you. Talk with your healthcare provider about whether CBD is right for you, and choose products that are certified for purity. With a little support, we can all navigate uncertainty with a sense of calm.
